folks, i was up at camp moore working this weekend, had a good time as usuall. i was informed by wayne cosby, president of the camp moore historical association that he marker commerating the 1862 ponchatoula train wreck involving the 7th ms infantry regiment, has arrived. there is a small glitch though. according to the paperwork, the state was to install it. they are now saying that we are supposed to do it. we keep all informed when i get any new info.

Seems as if Randy reported at one time this marker was stolen. Randy tells me that a state worker had broken the marker and took it down. It has been located and now needs welding and replaced. That is good news. If you are in Louisiana and can weld cast aluminum please contact Randy Ritchie from this website.

Here is a good link about the welding proces ---http://aluminumrepair.com/land/index.asp?src=msn

We just may get to have a re-didication this year!!!

i was just thinking, seems to me if a state worker damaged it, the state should be liable for the cost of repairing it.by the way, george i sent you a couple email concerning the marker, both email returned as undeliverable. you having trouble?

I cannot contact George by e-mail either. I have posted the comment he wanted me to review on the thread about the letter to the CWT about Lee. It appeared to be the only way to get it to him.

As for the damage done to the marker: don't hold your breath getting the State to ante up. If it was an act of vandalism on the part of the worker and not just an accident, then you should file charges for a "hate crime" (we've got to start using some of the enemy's tactics against him!) and get it covered in the press. You might not get anything concrete in the way of monetary reimbursement, but you will get publicity and maybe there will be no more vandalism. Who knows? You might also get someone to come forth to volunteer to fix the damage! Can't hurt, as me mother used to say.

Randy I agree with Val, but it wouldn't hurt to check and see if they will cover the cost.

Randy I did recieve one email. I think I may have made a mistake when I set up my email account. Check and see if emails from me have an "r' in "last." If so remove the "R" I haven't figured out how to edit my account at this time.

It just came to me that you can email me from this website by clicking on to my name in the members section.

Hope somebody takes a photo so that we can see the "finished product". Also hope somebody disengaged the state worker who wasted so much time, money and effort for everybody as well as showing no class or respect either. Maybe you should tie him to the tracks so he can watch the trains come through!

Randy, good work, your efforts to have it repaired paid off. When you get time send me some before and after pictures, estimated costs of repairs (time, labor, repairs etc). I will try to get a package together and send it to the State Dept of Trans (I assume) and see what we can get out of them. If you prefer SHAPE not to get involved and let your Camp submit it, so be it, we can put your CAMP CO's signature on the letter. This should have been taken care of by the State. BOTTOM LINE!

i try to keep the 7th ms folks updated anytime i get new info. sent email to ron, virgil, jamie, plus posted on our site.that would be fine with me wayne is so dedicated to keeping camp moore open, he has some times put his health at rick to help keep camp moore open and nice looking. his health is not the best in the world.you know, the word friend is tossed around today so flippently, but wayne is a special friend to me. he is planning on writing a book on the 8th la inf., plus later on a new book on camp moore. the book we sale today on camp moore, is so out of date.

Certainly, a nicely framed certificate of appreciation (we ought to create a "template" for such an award) should be bestowed upon the gentleman. Although I'm sure he did not do it for the applause, everyone appreciates being recognized for his or her efforts.
