When was the Confederate flag last officially lowered?

A: On November 6, 1865, Lieutenant James I. Waddell lowered the flag aboard the CSS Shendandoah at Liverpool, England- bringing down the Confederate colors offically for the last time.

Waddel had been informed that the was was over in Augst, by the captain of the Baracouta, out of Liverpool. The Shenandoah was off San Francisco at the time, as soon as Waddell saw the proof, in newspapers, he had the guns stowed.
He instructed Sailing Master I S Bulloch, to take the ship back to Liverpool, a journey of some 17,000 miles, passing around Cape Horn, and up through the South and North Atlantic Oceans, which he did brilliantly.

They were not waiting off Frisco, they were in they were in the general area when they came across the Baracoutta.
They had left the arctic, I would assume, to seek out more ships.

The Shenandoah fired the last shot of the war, in the Arctic Circle in June of 1865, when attacking the US whaling fleets.
I would recommend searching Amazon for this book, it gives the full story, and reads like a thriller,
Roy
