Hoooo huuummm Nothing special, however I am generous I'll give the movie a C+. A few bios and of course the mention of slavery as THE cause of the war. All in all it was fair regarding the bravery of the Southern Soldier especially the Mississippi troops. Just had to point out each slaveholder in the bios, Barksdale for one. Regardless of that fact I would deem this movie suitable for young viewers.
Have you read that they are re-releasing Gods and Generals with mea culpas and much weeping for the film's apparent Southern "bias?" The director was brought to tears for failing to be "sensitive" to slavery etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.
So keep your old version of the film unless you want to throw your TV out the window.
I had read something of the sort. As one person said we need to watch these films so we know what issues we may face in the future.
Did you watch Lee and Grant? Because it was produced by the History Channel, I just saved my time and skipped it. I figured it would be biased like the rest of the shows.
